Ford India launches - New Fusion - Cheaper and Reloaded

Submitted by Team on Aug 18, 2006

Ford India has launched the all new Fusion in the Indian market. The new Fusion has a 1.6 litre Duratec petrol engine, is a highly practical, compact and powerful vehicle combining solidity, robustness and agility.

Unveiling the new Fusion, Arvind Mathew, Managing Director & President of Ford India, said, “The New Ford Fusion is a contemporary, intelligent and powerful car, designed to meet the wide range of needs of today’s modern urban family.” “Fusion’s unique styling, compact exteriors, complemented by spacious and premium new interiors add up to make it an extremely desirable mid-sized car for an urban household”, he added.

The 1.6 litre Duratec aluminum alloy engine delivers 101 ps of power @ 6500 rpm and an impressive 146 NM torque @ 3400 rpm. The powerful engine coupled with intelligent drive-by-wire technology offers high low-end torque, faster acceleration and superior fuel efficiency.

The all new Fusion’s bold exteriors are defined by a proud bonnet line, a prominent grille and “lozenge” shaped headlamps, which include integrated front turn indicators.

This new Fusion is two toned. It has the same plastic quality interiors, however, it has a different finish and this makes the interiors looks much nicer. A number of things have been lifted from the Fiesta like the rotating air vents, the dials which has a guage that shows how much you have to go till the tank's empty and little knick-knacks, all of which combine to give the Fusion a much better interior feel and look.

The dual tone colouring of dash works really well. There is also a nice cubby hole under the glove compartment and a coin slot on the central console. The upholstery is also all new and avocado in colour.

The Ford Fusion sits on 15” wheels, which complements the tough and bold appearance of the car. With a tight turning circle radius of 4.9 metres, Fusion offers much greater maneuverability in congested city conditions.
Scott McCormack, Vice President - Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India, said, “The new Fusion has been developed after extensive market research and the new features have been based on customer feedback. The new Fusion offers an incredible package of intelligent features apt for today’s modem urban, no-nonsense customer.”

When it was first launched, the Fusion was a good car but it failed to create an impression in the urban utility vehicles segment that it was trying to crack. With the consumers being a little dissatisfied with the quality of the interiors, a revamp was sorely needed.
